Bringing the World to Our Table: How Our Culinary Journey Began
Me and Plas was born from a simple belief: you don’t need a passport, a reservation, or a professional kitchen to experience restaurant‑quality food from around the world. With the right ingredients, accessible tools, and a little curiosity, your own kitchen can become the best global restaurant you’ve ever visited.
Food, travel, and cooking have always been woven into the fabric of our family life. In the early years of our marriage—and even more so once we had children—those passions only grew. For work, I traveled frequently for work, racking up miles that soon turned into family adventures. Our kids developed surprisingly refined palates, happily trying dishes that some of my most sophisticated friends would hesitate to order.
But our real culinary journey didn’t begin on a plane. It began during COVID.
Suddenly we were home—completely. No travel, no restaurants, no weekend getaways. Grocery shopping became a scavenger hunt, hopping between five different stores just to find any cut of meat available. I was fortunate to keep my job, but my travel schedule went from 50% to zero overnight. We missed the world. We missed the flavors. And as the refunds from cancelled vacations started rolling in, we probably should have funneled that money into the kids’ college funds, but Amazon was right there, whispering promises of new gadgets, ingredients, and culinary adventures.
So we leaned in.
With extra time on our hands, we dove into cookbooks, videos, and techniques we’d never tried before. We discovered that the equipment and ingredients used in our favorite restaurants were far more accessible than we’d ever realized. Night after night—over 400 nights, in fact—we cooked dishes from every corner of the globe. And somewhere along the way, our kitchen became our favorite place to travel.
We reached a point where we’d confidently put our homemade meals up against dishes from restaurants we loved around the world. Cooking for friends and family became our love language. It was healthier, less expensive, endlessly creative, and best of all, we didn’t have to leave the house.
Now that we’re back to traveling, our trips look a little different. We still explore, still taste, still wander—but now we do it with a purpose. Every destination becomes a classroom, every meal a new idea to bring home and recreate.
And that’s what Me and Plas is all about: sharing what we’ve learned so you can bring the whole world to your table, too.
